Ebadah helps you fight back by creating a pause before the scroll, giving you a simple way to redirect your time and attention from doomscrolling toward something that benefits you: reconnecting with Allah.

Why I Built Ebadah

I founded Ebadah because of a personal struggle I know too well, doomscrolling for hours without even realizing it.

Like many other Muslims, after a long day, I like to decompress by scrolling on Instagram or watching YouTube for a bit. I tell myself, “Okay, I am only going to go on for 15 minutes.” At first, it feels harmless. The algorithm starts off great. It shows me Connor McDavid highlights, then a few Game of Thrones theories, and before I know it, those 15 minutes have turned into 45 minutes.

Eventually, it gets to the point where I go from watching something I am actually interested in to a random AI talking cat video. That is usually when I know it is time to log off lol. By then, three or four hours have passed, and I am left feeling drained, unmotivated, further away from Allah, and scrambling to make the most of whatever time is left in my day.

After being in this frustrating cycle for a while, I started to notice that Muslims are fighting an uphill battle. These platforms are designed to keep us scrolling for as long as possible. Multi-billion dollar companies pour millions into engineering teams, algorithms, and notifications with one goal in mind: to keep our attention on their platforms for as long as possible.

After feeling frustrated by how easy it is to lose hours to doomscrolling and feeling further away from Allah, I decided to start building Ebadah.

Ebadah is not created to shame people for scrolling, take away downtime, or make screen time feel wrong. Everyone needs rest, and everyone needs time to decompress. Ebadah is created to help you pause before the scroll and complete acts of ibadah before unlocking screen time.

Ebadah is meant to help Muslims redirect the time and energy we lose to doomscrolling toward something more meaningful, reconnecting with Allah through small acts of ibadah. The goal is not perfection. It is to help make screen time more intentional in a way that fits your own journey and pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ebadah is a mobile app that helps you break the habit of mindless doomscrolling by turning screen time into meaningful acts of worship. Instead of opening distracting apps right away, you earn screen time through acts of ibadah such as Salah, reading or listening to the Quran, Dhikr, and Istighfar.

When you complete an act of ibadah, you earn tokens that can be used to unlock screen time. Simply choose the apps you want to limit, complete an act of worship, earn tokens, and use those tokens to access your apps.

You choose the apps that distract you the most. Whether that's TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, Snapchat, Facebook, X, or even mobile games.

Alhamdulillah, yes. Ebadah will include a free version so anyone can begin building better habits. For those looking for additional features, customization, and insights, a Premium version will also be available.

Unlike traditional app blockers that simply lock your apps or enforce time limits, Ebadah helps you replace screen time with meaningful acts of worship. Earn screen time through Salah, Quran, Dhikr, and Istighfar, creating positive habits instead of relying on willpower alone.

Ebadah is also designed to fit your personal journey. Customize which apps you want to block, choose the acts of ibadah you want to complete, and tailor the experience to your own goals. As you grow, detailed insights help you track your worship, streaks, and progress over time. Plus, with a free version available, anyone can begin building better habits from day one!
